10 Anime Characters Who Keep Being Taken Advantage Of

© Provided by CBR

There are those who take advantage of others, and then there are those who are taken advantage of. Anime often portrays those who are taken advantage of as sympathetic or to be pitied. These characters are often meek, naive or disadvantaged in some way.

While some of these characters attempt to fight back against this, most characters being taken advantage of don't fight it, whether because they feel disempowered or because they don't even realize they're being used. Characters who are taken advantage of often have the biggest bleeding hearts, and those who use them know exactly how to exploit that caring side. Being taken advantage of is never fun, but these characters make the best of unfortunate circumstances.

Tohru Honda Gives Everything She Is To Others

Fruits Basket

Tohru Honda from Fruits Basket is as sweet as pie and has boundless kindness. Like the parable of The Most Foolish Traveler in the World, Tohru gives and gives and gives until she has nothing left and finds joy in doing so.

Tohru leaves herself open to being taken advantage of, and she does not mind it. Even after discovering Akito and Shigure were using her as a pawn, she never held it against them. Whether this mindset is foolish or selfless is left to the audience's interpretation, but thankfully, she has her friends looking out for her.

Rin Okumura's Heritage Forces Him To Play By The Rules

Blue Exorcist

Because of his heritage as the son of Satan, Rin Okumura from Blue Exorcist is held on a tight leash by the True Cross Order. Time and time again, Rin is forced to either comply with their demands or face execution.

Rin being used by those in higher authority isn't usually an issue for him because their goals align for the most part. Rin wants to kill Satan, and becoming an exorcist is the best way to do so. However, that doesn't change the fact that almost everyone in a position of power is using him for their own personal goals.

Noé Archiviste Is Naive

The Case Study of Vanitas

Noé Archiviste from The Case Study of Vanitas is a very special type of vampire who can read the memories of the people whose blood he drinks. This unique ability is coveted by others, though Noé himself would rather use it sparingly.

Noé is a kind and naive person, and people often exploit that altruism for their own purposes. After his adopted grandparents died, Noé was trafficked and kidnapped before eventually ending up with his teacher. Despite holding his teacher in high regard, it's clear even he is using Noé to some unknown extent.

Atsushi's Special Ability Makes Him Vulnerable To Being Used

Bunguo Stray Dogs

Atsushi Nakajima from Bunguo Stray Dogs has been used his entire life, first by the orphanage that took him in and then by the Armed Detective Agency. While it hasn't been stated outright, there is something unique about his Ability that many groups desire.

Because of his Ability, Atsushi is used by both friend and foe. Dazai basically forced him to become part of the ADA after his Ability was revealed, and other people at the agency assert their will over him in big and small ways. He is constantly bouncing from task to task, usually at the expense of his own wants.

Tanjiro Kamado Is Constantly Being Sent On Missions

Demon Slayer

Tanjiro Kamado from Demon Slayer is constantly being pulled from one job to another by the Demon Slayer Corps with little to no rest in between missions. Despite being a new recruit, the Corps constantly throws him into dangerous, life-threatening missions, seemingly without regard for his life.

RELATED: 8 Times Demon Slayer Disappointed Fans

The nature of the demons in Demon Slayer means that this ritual abuse of new recruits is fairly standard practice. The Demon Slayers are wildly understaffed compared to the massive demon threat, which means lower-ranked Slayers must fight. Tanjiro himself doesn't seem to mind, either, taking on each job with vigor and determination.

Uramichi Omota Is An Overworked Onii-san

Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan

Uramichi Omota from Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan is constantly being taken advantage of by his boss and co-workers. Hilarious misfortune continues to fall upon Uramichi's tired shoulders at the studio he works for.

For some inexplicable reason, the director of Uramichi's department loves to single out Uramichi specifically to do dumb, menial tasks, like drawing uncanny faces on balls or inviting his creepy co-worker to a company party. Because Uramichi values having a stable job, he complies with these demands, no matter how ridiculous they may be.

Asta Takes Being Used In Stride

Black Clover

Asta from Black Clover may not have any magic, but that doesn't stop people from using him for their own gains. As one of the new members of the Black Bulls, Asta is forced to do all the household chores for the squad, along with going on dangerous missions. The other new member, Noelle, is too privileged and self-centered to ever help Asta with chores.

Asta takes it all in stride, as he believes in the power of hard work. He never complains when given a task, no matter how inconsequential it may seem, always giving each challenge his all.

Ash Lynx Can't Escape His Horrible Circumstances

Banana Fish

Ash Lynx from Banana Fish has had a hard life, even by anime standards. As a child, he was sexually assaulted by his baseball coach. When Ash ran away, he was trafficked and picked up by the biggest mob boss in New York City.

Even when Ash became a leader himself, he was still being used for his intellect by those in power and the gangs who looked up to him. The only person not to use him is Eiji. Eiji treats him not as an object, but as a person. Even when Ash feels inhuman, Eiji sees the humanity behind the mask.

Hawks Never Had A Choice

My Hero Academia

Hawks from My Hero Academia is used by everyone. As the #2 Hero, he has an obligation to his community to keep them safe. Beyond that, he is also used by the Hero Commission to further their own goals.

RELATED: 10 Harsh Realities Of Being Hawks In My Hero Academia

Beyond just heroes, Hawks is used by the League of Villains, and because he is trying to infiltrate their ranks, he is forced to comply. Hawks has never truly had a choice in his life. Though he genuinely believes in hero society, it is doubtful he'd ever have been allowed to make any choice beyond what was expected of him.

Haruhi Fujioka Needs To Pay Off A Debt

Ouran High School Host Club

All Haruhi Fujioka wanted was a quiet place to study. Instead, what she got was massive debt and a new job at the school's host club. Because she accidentally knocked over an expensive vase, Haruhi is forced to pay off the price of it by working with Tamaki Suoh and his club.

In Ouran High School Host Club, Haruhi is often subjected to the ridiculous whims of Tamaki and the other members. Despite the unfair situation, Haruhi does end up enjoying the club and even befriends every member of the host club.
