Sextortion

Sextortion is a form of sexual exploitation that involves using sexually explicit images or videos to extort money or other forms of exploitation from the victim. This can include threats to share the material with friends, family, or colleagues if the victim doesn’t comply with the demands. Sextortion is increasingly being used by human traffickers to control and manipulate their victims, particularly those involved in sex trafficking. Traffickers may use sextortion to coerce victims into performing acts they would not otherwise agree to, or to prevent them from escaping. In some cases, traffickers may even create the sexually explicit material themselves, to use as leverage against their victims. Sextortion can be particularly damaging for victims, who may feel ashamed or embarrassed about the material, and may be fearful of the consequences of it being shared.
