Child Trafficking

Child Trafficking refers to the illegal trade and exploitation of children for various purposes. It involves the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, or receipt of children by means of force, coercion, abduction, fraud, or deception for the purpose of exploitation. Child trafficking is a grave violation of children’s rights and a form of modern-day slavery.

Children who are trafficked are often forced into various forms of exploitation, including forced labor, sexual exploitation, child soldiering, child marriage, and involvement in criminal activities like drug trafficking or begging. Traffickers prey on vulnerable children, including those who are impoverished, orphaned, displaced, or living in marginalized communities. They manipulate and exploit their vulnerability for financial gain.

Trafficking networks operate globally, crossing national borders and involving both domestic and cross-border trafficking. Children may be trafficked within their own country or across international borders, sometimes being smuggled or transported under false pretenses. They may be sold to individuals or criminal organizations, who exploit them for labor or sexual purposes.

Child trafficking is a severe violation of human rights and is recognized as a serious crime under international law. Efforts are being made by governments, international organizations, and civil society groups to combat child trafficking through legislation, law enforcement, and preventive measures. These include raising awareness, strengthening child protection systems, improving education and socioeconomic opportunities, and supporting the rehabilitation and reintegration of trafficking victims.
