Launching of Red Card2Sextortion and Panel Discussion

Sextortion occurs in tertiary institutions and work environment around the globe, and press reports have highlighted the prevalence of sextortion in Nigeria and other African countries.  According to a survey by UNODC in Nigeria in 2020, both men and women would feel reluctant to speak about sextortion. This culture of silence means that sextortion is rarely reported to or investigated by law enforcement.

As part of the activities to commemorate this year's International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Persons and 21 Days Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, Devatop Centre for Africa Development with support from U.S Embassy Nigeria will host a forum with experts to discuss and highlight the issues around Sextortion and Online Sexual Exploitation. The event will be used to launch a nationwide campaign, known as Red Card to Sextortion (#RedCard2Sextortion)

Who can attend?: Students, youth, civil servants, employers, teachers/lecturers, human rights activists, law enforcement officers, and entrepreneurs

Expected guests at the event include representatives from diplomatic missions, National University Commission, Tertiary Institutions, civil society organizations, and law enforcement agencies.
