New Delhi: Vijay Deverakonda has pledged to donate his organs and said he has already registered for the same along with his mother, Madhavi.

The “Liger” actor attended an event to encourage organ donation where he spoke about the nobility of the act.

“Doctors tell me that a lot of surgeries happen only because of donors. Incredibly, there are so many people donating emotionally to other people. It's a beautiful thing. At the same time, they (doctors) were talking about how organ donations are less in South Asian countries,” Deverakonda said.

“I think, I will donate all my organs. I would love for it to be part of someone in my life and help them in their life. I don't see any point in wasting my organs. I stay fit and keep myself healthy… My mother and I have registered ourselves to donate our organs. It is such a beautiful thing that you continue to live on in some way because of your generosity. I encourage everyone to be open to the idea of organ donation,” he further added.

Vijay's fans and well-wishers lauded the 33-year-old actor, calling him an inspiration.

Why should you donate organs?

According to he Cleveland Clinic, it is a surgically done procedure where an organ or tissue from one person is placed into another after the recipient's organ has failed or been damaged.

Experts believe that even though organ transplantation is one of the great advances in modern medicine, the need for organ donors is much greater than the number of people who donate.

Statistics say every day in the US, 21 people die waiting for an organ and more than 107,380 men, women, and children await life-saving organ transplants.

Organs and tissues that can be transplanted include the liver, kidney, pancreas, heart, lung, intestines, bone marrow, connective tissues, skin, bone, middle ear, cornea, heart valves, etc.

According to Cleveland Clinic, more than 6,000 living donor transplants were performed in 2021 across the world.
