U.S. Department of Justice

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is a federal executive department responsible for enforcing the laws of the United States and for providing legal advice to the President and other executive branch agencies. The DOJ is headed by the Attorney General, who is appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. The DOJ has a wide range of responsibilities, including investigating and prosecuting federal crimes, representing the United States in legal matters, and providing support and assistance to state and local law enforcement agencies. The DOJ also has several specialized agencies and divisions, such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), that carry out specific law enforcement functions.
