Palmyra Atoll

Palmyra Atoll is a small, uninhabited coral atoll located in the North Pacific Ocean. It is one of the United States Minor Outlying Islands and is an unincorporated territory of the United States. The atoll is located about 1,000 miles south of Hawaii and is about four square miles in size. It is made up of a coral reef surrounding a lagoon, and there are no permanent residents on the atoll.

Palmyra Atoll was discovered in 1802 by Captain Sawle of the American ship Palmyra, and it was named after the ship. The atoll has a small landing strip and a number of buildings, including a lighthouse, but these are only used by occasional visitors. Palmyra Atoll is home to a number of species of birds, including the sooty tern and the red-tailed tropicbird, and it is an important nesting site for these and other seabirds. The atoll is also home to a number of species of reptiles, including lizards and snakes. Palmyra Atoll is known for its rich marine life, and it is a popular destination for scuba diving and snorkeling.
