Organ Transplant

An organ transplant is a surgical procedure in which a healthy organ is removed from one person (the donor) and implanted into another person (the recipient) whose organ is no longer functioning properly. The most commonly transplanted organs are the heart, liver, kidneys, and lungs. Organ transplantation can save the lives of people who are suffering from organ failure, and can significantly improve their quality of life. However, there is a shortage of available organs, and the demand for transplantation far exceeds the supply. As a result, organ transplantation is carefully regulated, and there are strict criteria for determining who is eligible to receive an organ transplant.
