Kingman Reef

Kingman Reef is a small, uninhabited coral atoll located in the North Pacific Ocean. It is one of the United States Minor Outlying Islands and is an unincorporated territory of the United States. The atoll is located about 1,000 miles south of Hawaii and is about one square mile in size. It is made up of a coral reef surrounding a lagoon, and there are no permanent residents on the atoll.

Kingman Reef was discovered in 1853 by the United States government survey ship USCS Palmyra, and it was named after Captain W.E. Kingman, who served as the ship’s master. The atoll has a small landing strip and a number of buildings, including a lighthouse, but these are only used by occasional visitors. Kingman Reef is home to a number of species of birds, including the sooty tern and the brown booby, and it is an important nesting site for these and other seabirds. The atoll is also home to a number of species of reptiles, including lizards and snakes.
