Johnston Atoll

Johnston Atoll is a small, uninhabited coral atoll located in the North Pacific Ocean. It is one of the United States Minor Outlying Islands and is an unincorporated territory of the United States. The atoll is located about 750 miles southwest of Hawaii and is made up of four small islands: Johnston Island, Sand Island, North Island, and East Island. The atoll has a total land area of about 2.8 square miles, and there are no permanent residents on the islands.

Johnston Atoll was discovered in 1807 by Captain Johnston of the British ship HMS Cornwallis, and it was named after him. The atoll has a small landing strip and a number of buildings, including a lighthouse, but these are only used by occasional visitors. Johnston Atoll is home to a number of species of birds, including the white tern and the red-tailed tropicbird, and it is an important nesting site for these and other seabirds. The atoll is also home to a number of species of reptiles, including lizards and snakes.
