Women and girls may also be trafficked for sexual exploitation as a means of survival. Addressing the root causes of hunger, including poverty and inequality, is critical to preventing and addressing human trafficking. Efforts to promote food security, economic development, and access to education and healthcare can help to reduce vulnerability to trafficking.
