DOJ indicts 8 suspects for human trafficking over Clark cyber scam hub

The (DOJ) has indicted eight suspects involved in the operations of a cyber scam hub in Clark, Pampanga where more than 1,000 victims were recently rescued.

A resolution of the DOJ Prosecution Task Force on Trafficking Cases dated May 22 the filing of human trafficking charges against the suspects for allegedly violating Section 4(j0(2), in relation to Section 6(c) and (o), in further relation to Section 10(e) of Republic Act No. 9208 or the Anti- Act.

On May 4, over 1,000 nationals from the Philippines, Vietnam, China, Indonesia, Nepal, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Taiwan were rescued at the Clark Freeport and Special Economic Zone after they were allegedly forced to work for cyber fraud, victimizing their fellow citizens.

The DOJ previously said they have identified 12 alleged traffickers that may be deported or sued by the government. Most of them are foreign nationals.

Meanwhile, at least 936 processed foreign nationals were issued departure orders by the Bureau of (BI) while 291 were repatriated. Undocumented victims, who are still awaiting repatriation or processing legal documents, are under BI custody. —LDF, GMA Integrated News
