NAPTIP secures four convictions in Edo courts for human trafficking – The Guardian Nigeria

The crusade against human trafficking has recorded successes,  following the conviction of seven persons, yesterday, by Justice A.A. Adewemimo of the National Industrial Court, Benin Division, Edo State.
The Benin Zonal Command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of (NAPTIP), secured the conviction of seven persons in four different cases of human trafficking.

The zonal commander, Mr. Nduka Nwawenne, said that all the convictions, which came with terms of imprisonment, hard labour and fines are from four convictions in four different cases involving seven accused persons.

“The anti-human trafficking agency secured convictions in FRN V. Amaze Ogieriakhi in charge No: NNNCN/BEN/2c/2022 at the National Industrial Court, Benin Division, before Justice A.A Adewemimo in the case which was filed on October 13, 2022.

“The convict, Ogieriakhi was sentenced on December 7,  by Justice Adewemimo to two years imprisonment with hard labour and a fine of N200,000 , while Fatima Joy Odiri Joseph,  was sentenced to three years imprisonment in the charge under Sections 13(4)(c) TIPPEA Act 2015.

In FRN V. Lucky Ogudu in Charge No: NNNCN/BEN/3c/2022, which was also filed at the National Industrial Court, Benin Division before Justice Adewemimo, sentenced the accused to 12 months imprisonment with hard labour and a fine of N50,000.

The Command also secured convictions of the trio of Okafor Ebere, Otungi Isioma and Okafor Peace, who were sentenced by the trial judge to one year imprisonment with hard labour and a fine of N200,000 each.
