Third secretary of Sri Lankan Embassy in Oman arrested over human trafficking – ColomboPage

Nov 29, Colombo: Sri Lankan authorities have arrested the third secretary of the Sri Lankan Embassy in Oman at the arrival terminal of the Bandaranaike International Airport this morning (29).

The embassy official identified as E. Kushan was arrested by a group of Criminal Investigation Department officers who came to the Department at the arrival terminal of BIA when he arrived.

The suspect had arrived at the Katunayake airport at 03.57 this morning from Muscat, Oman on Salam Air flight OV-437.

The third secretary was arrested over several allegations including sexual harassment of women who have gone to Oman as domestic aides, human trafficking of women to Oman, selling Sri Lankan domestic workers and .

It is reported that the suspect is currently being detained and interrogated by Criminal Investigation Department officials and a statement is being recorded.

It was disclosed at the Committee on Public Accounts meeting held last week that although complaints against the, currently suspended Omani embassy official were made since February this year no action has been taken against the official until the incident received a lot of publicity through the media recently.
