Pornhub Accuses Instagram Of 'Double Standards' As Meta Permanently Disables Its Official Account

The controversial adult-content website Pornhub criticized Instagram for deciding to permanently block its account on the social network, citing Instagram's policy of allowing famous people like Kim Kardashian to publish nudity-containing images as an example of a double standard.

Reportedly, Pornhub, the Adult Performance Artists Guild, the Speech Coalition, and more than 60 other adult performers pleaded with Instagram in an open letter to senior executives at Meta (Instagram's parent company) to “end all discrimination toward those involved in the adult industry” and to “immediately reinstate all accounts, including Pornhub, that have not violated any of Instagram's Terms of Services.”

The letter, which Pornhub uploaded on Twitter, is written to Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, Nick Clegg, and Jennifer Newstead, the chief legal officer of Meta. However, despite Pornhub's assertions that it has not broken any Instagram rules, a representative for Meta claimed that Pornhub has consistently broken those rules for more than ten years, including the prohibition on sexual solicitation. According to Meta, Pornhub's Instagram account was permanently closed due to repeated infractions.

Instagram's community policies state that “We realize that there are instances when individuals might wish to share nude photographs that are artistic or creative in nature, we don't allow nudity on Instagram for a variety of reasons.” Additionally, Instagram abides by Meta's corporate-wide community guidelines, which prohibit “attempted coordination of or recruiting for adult sexual activities” with regard to sexual solicitation.

Instagram postings from Pornhub contained movies like “Next Career Goal” that urged viewers to work as porn actors. Early in September, Instagram deactivated Pornhub's account, which had more than 6,200 posts and 13.1 million followers. That happened roughly a month after Visa and Mastercard terminated TrafficJunky's payment rights.
