Leeds man, 68, jailed on rape, human trafficking charges; police believe ‘many victims still out there’

A 68-year-old man is sitting in the Jefferson County Jail on rape and human trafficking charges after police found three females with him when they executed a search warrant Tuesday morning in Leeds, authorities said Thursday.

George Ervin Clark, 68, of Leeds, was charged with three counts of rape and one count of human trafficking, said Leeds Police Chief Paul Irwin.

Clark is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on $350,000 bond, said Irwin.

“It is great to remove a predator from our community and it is a tragedy that these offenses occurred,” the chief said in a statement.

Leeds officers executed a search warrant around 6:15 a.m. Tuesday in the 1500 block of Philadelphia Street.

Inside, the officers found Clark and three females.

Evidence collected from the scene included a camera, VHS tapes, thumb drives, CDs, a laptop, cell phones, a rifle, a pistol, cocaine and drug paraphernalia, Irwin said.

The chief said the search warrant was executed after a “young lady came forward,” adding that the witness is “going to make a difference” in the case.

Irwin noted that many sexual assaults go unreported, and the chief said he believes there are more victims of Clark than police know about.
