Transgender

Transgender is an umbrella term that is used to describe people whose gender identity or expression differs from the sex they were assigned at birth. For example, a person who was assigned male at birth but identifies as a woman may self-identify as a transgender woman. Transgender people may also identify as gender non-binary or genderqueer, meaning they do not identify as exclusively male or female. Transgender people may choose to undergo medical treatments, such as hormone therapy or gender-affirming surgery, to align their bodies with their gender identity. It is important to respect a person’s gender identity and to use the name and pronouns that they prefer.
