Human trafficking is notorious for shocking statistics with dubious origins. For a crime of such magnitude, there are severe limitations in data gathering methods.
Every month, we receive stories directly from the field about men, women, and children being prevented from a life spent in slavery. Each and every one gives a unique glimpse into the work being done on the front lines to stop human trafficking and impact people with freedom and hope.
Over 10 million refugees have fled their homes in Ukraine since the war started in February. With men required to stay and fight, women and children seek safety on their own, escaping to neighboring countries or safer regions within Ukraine. UNICEF reported over 500 unaccompanied children crossing the border from Ukraine into Romania in the first three weeks of war.
Our team in Namibia recently began monitoring in a new location, right on the border of a neighboring country. During a tour of a nearby marketplace, they witnessed people being sold into labor for less than a dollar.
Every day, we have teams working on the front lines across the globe, taking action to prevent vulnerable people from becoming victims of human trafficking. Here are some of those breaking stories for the month of March 2022.
In 2021, with the indispensable support of our donors, we continued to love people and fight for justice. During the past year, our teams around the world intercepted more than 4,000 potential victims from the threat of human trafficking. In addition, our work also led to the arrest of more than 160 suspects—potentially disrupting trafficking efforts and making the exploitation of the vulnerable just a little riskier.
Our children’s ministry continues to grow and thrive. With the creation of our first family home in 2004 to the launch of our education center, The Dream School, in 2015, it has proved to be a true testament to the hard work required to successfully nurture and empower our children to be all that God has called them to be.
