Federal Government

A federal government is a system of government in which power is divided between a central, national government and regional or state governments. In a federal system, the national government is responsible for certain areas of governance, such as foreign affairs and national defense, while the state or regional governments are responsible for other areas, such as education and public safety.

The United States is an example of a federal government. The U.S. federal government is made up of three branches: the executive branch, which is responsible for enforcing the laws and carrying out the functions of the government; the legislative branch, which is responsible for making the laws; and the judicial branch, which is responsible for interpreting the laws and hearing cases. The U.S. federal government also has a system of checks and balances, which ensures that no one branch of government has too much power.

Other countries, such as Canada and Germany, also have federal systems of government.
