Tri-Cities event aims to protect children from human trafficking

Mar. 3 — A family-friend Tri-Cities event is planned Saturday to raise money to protect children from human trafficking.

The Shine a Light Through the Night fundraiser includes s'mores, hot beverages, a fire truck, games and prizes.

The Columbia Center Rotary event is 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the club's parking lot and event center at 6222 W. John Day Ave. in Kennewick.

There also will be information available on human trafficking from local organizations and and presentations.

“Despite the serious nature of why we're having this event, it's always fun and educational,” said co-chairman Chad Baker. “Each year has a new twist to it, but our goal remains clear; to fight human trafficking in our area.”

The event is raising money to pay for the PROTECT curriculum., a human trafficking prevention education and training program for students and teachers.

The Rotary is hoping to raise $20,000 toward its goal.

The club is also collecting donations through the event's Facebook page, bit.ly/RotaryLight.
