Mid Michigan College to host human trafficking awareness speaker session – MLive.com

MT. PLEASANT, MI— Scheduled for Monday, March 17 on its Mt. Pleasant Campus, Mid Michigan College has partnered with the R.I.S.E. Advocacy group to better inform the surrounding community on the matter of human trafficking.

The speaker session will kick off at 11:30 a.m. and will feature Kaitlyn Holbeck with R.I.S.E. Advocacy sharing what human trafficking is, debunking myths surrounding the issue and answering lingering questions.

According to a release by the college, Holbeck earned her Bachelor's Degree in Social Work in 2018 from Central Michigan University and a Master's Degree in social work in 2022 from Arizona State University.

In August 2022, Holbeck joined the R.I.S.E. Advocacy team as its sexual assault counselor and completed specialized training in the field of human trafficking to be able to provide others with training and education.

Shortly after she began facilitating R.I.S.E Human Trafficking Coalition meetings, providing awareness and education about human trafficking.

Dean of Business & Professional Studies Amy Fisher said the discussion will help better raise awareness for an issue that, despite worldwide counter-efforts, still exists and hits close to home for many.

“This is a very important topic that impacts community members more often than people might think,” said Fisher. “We're eager to help raise awareness surrounding human trafficking.”

The release shared that the event is free to the public and includes lunch but does require an RSVP.
