Webinar To Focus On Human Trafficking, Hosted By Somerset County | Basking Ridge, NJ Patch

SOMERVILLE, NJ – Learn about human trafficking in New Jersey and how to help prevent it through education and advocacy. Somerset County's Office of Youth Services division will host the webinar “Human Trafficking 101” on Friday, Feb. 24, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Professional development credits are available.

Registration is required in advance.

Legal expert and Board of Trustees of the New Jersey Coalition Against Human Trafficking, Stephen M. De Luca, S.J.D., will discuss how perpetrators recruit, harbor, transport, and obtain victims using force, fraud, or coercion to exploit minors through forced labor or sexual exploitation. Attendees will gain knowledge about human trafficking laws in New Jersey, learn about the different types of human trafficking and understand how to determine if someone is a victim of this crime.

The presentation is appropriate for social workers, certified counselors, teachers, clinicians, and other professionals who support children. It also will benefit families, and anyone interested in learning more about this topic. Attendees can earn 1.5 professional development credits.

The New Jersey Coalition Against Human Trafficking

The New Jersey Coalition Against Human Trafficking is a fully volunteer-run organization that coordinates statewide community efforts to end sex and in New Jersey. Its mission is to unite the state's communities to end human trafficking by organizing speaking events, outreach, educational programs, and policy advocacy.

Somerset County Office of Youth Services

The Youth Services division assesses and coordinates the efforts of government and community agencies that work with at-risk delinquent youth and youth with emotional or behavioral disturbance. The agency also prepares needs-based plans for state and county government and distributes federal, state, and local funds for the development of programs and services to meet these needs. The division is also responsible for the development of sanctions and services for court-involved youth.
