Babysitter Torture: Cops Probe If Duo Trafficked Minors | Gurgaon News – Times of India

GURGAON: The two persons arrested on Friday in the case of alleged torture and sexual harassment of a teenager by her employers have been sent to two days' police remand. Cops are investigating if one of them, the owner of a placement agency, was involved in human trafficking.

The couple that allegedly tortured the girl — Manish Khattar (36) and his wife Kamaljeet Kaur (34), residents of New Colony — were arrested on Tuesday, while Arun Kumar Turi, the owner of the Delhi-based placement agency through which the minor was hired, and another accused Manish Nag were nabbed on Friday.

The minor, who came to the city in May 2022 with her maternal uncle, was hired by the couple around five months ago through the placement agency.

According to police sources, the girl's uncle brought her from Jharkhand to Manish, who in turn took her to Arun. Arun took Rs 30,000 from the couple for the girl's placement as a babysitter at their home. Of this, Manish got Rs 10,000 as commission.

“Both the men are from Jharkhand. A court sent them to two days' remand on Saturday. We will interrogate them to find more details in connection with the case,” said a police officer.

Cops conducted a raid at the placement agency, which is located in Raja Garden, on Friday. Arun's mobile phone is also being screened. Police sources said it appears he received money from various sources, possibly for placing several minors as domestic staff.

Police are now probing if Arun was involved in the illegal trafficking of minors and have sought his account transactions and other financial details from the banks concerned. He could be possibly involved in bringing more girls from Bihar and Jharkhand under similar circumstances and placing them at various households across the city, sources said.

The girl, who is 15 years old according to her Aadhaar card, was rescued from New Colony by a joint team of police personnel and Sakhi, a one-stop crisis centre, on February 7. She is currently undergoing treatment in hospital.

After Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren's intervention, a team from the eastern state's anti-human trafficking unit (AHTU) reached the city on Thursday to take the minor back home, but was told that she is not in a condition to travel.
