Hattiesburg Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated to host human

The Hattiesburg Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated will host a forum, “Beneath the Surface: An Evening Discussion about Human Trafficking” on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, to generate of human trafficking, to foster multidisciplinary cooperation and to better support victims.

An issue affecting the region and state, human trafficking is often a hidden problem and many cases are underreported. The purpose for the forum is to bring the problem to light, so that all can better understand it and join together to stop the operation of our most vulnerable populations.

The event, which begins at 6:00p.m. at the Jackie Dole Sherrill Community Center, 220 West Front Street in Hattiesburg, will consist of local, state and federal officials. It is and open to the public. Parents and youths are highly encouraged to attend.

With over 350,000 initiated members, nationally and internationally, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a private, not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs that focus on:

  • Economic Development
  • Educational Development
  • International Awareness and Involvement
  • Physical and Mental Health
  • Political Awareness and Involvement (Social Action)

Locally, the Hattiesburg Alumnae Chapter is an award-winning chapter servicing Forrest and Lamar counties and has provided various services and programs to the Hattiesburg area, including annual educational scholarships to deserving students; registering an array of people to vote and mentoring youth in our community through the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy, Delta G.E.M.S. and E.M.B.O.D.I. programs. We formed collaborative efforts with the AIDS Services Coalition, American Heart Association, Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, Hattiesburg Police Department, N.A.A.C.P., and we look forward to continued partnerships as we exemplify the legacy of compassionate service planted by our 22 national Founders and our 26 local Charter Members.
