Beltangady: What has MLA Harish Poonja to do with rapists, killers, asks Shekar Layila

Beltangady, Jan 11: “What has MLA Harish Poonja to do with the accused of rape of a minor girl at Mitthabagilu, child marriage, abortion, murder of a Dalit youth at Shibaje and motivation for suicide at Thotattadi? While the MLA speaks about the assault case at Bengaluru, what is the purpose of protecting criminals in his constituency?” asked CPI(M) leader Shekar Layila.

“It is tragic that the accused of the rape of a minor girl at Mitthabagilu is not arrested. MLA Harish Poonja's hand is behind the increasing number of criminal cases at Beltangady taluk during the last four-and-a-half years. He has become number one MLA by protecting criminals and not by development. He is pressurising the police department by low grade politics preventing arrest of the suspect of Mitthabagilu incident, murder suspect of Dalit youth at Shibaje and the accused of motivating the suicide of Thotattadi Chandrashekar Poojary,” alleged Shekar Layila.

“MLA Harish Poonja who urges the arrest of Bengaluru assault suspects, has links with the criminals in his constituency. Let the MLA protest in front of the police station if the suspects of Mittabagilu, Thotattadi and Shibaje cases are not arrested within a week, if he is bold enough” he challenged.
