Human trafficking awareness effort underway on roadways, at truck stops

Jan. 9—A combined effort to raise and fight human trafficking is underway this week in Michigan and throughout the nation.

With January designated as National Human Trafficking Awareness Month, Michigan State Police motor carrier officers are teaming up with officers from across the United States, , and the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance from Jan. 9 through Jan. 13 in an effort to educate motorists on human trafficking signs and to enforce laws that crack down on traffickers.

The week-long initiative is aimed at commercial motor vehicle drivers, public safety transportation workers, rest area attendants, truck stop employees and others on how to spot human trafficking.

Since 2015, MSP and TAT have partnered in what's now recognized as a national leader in human trafficking awareness and education. More information on TAT is available at truckersagainsttrafficking.org.

To report suspected human trafficking, call the National Human Trafficking Center at 888-373-7888 or text BeFree to 233733..
