Police To Host Human Trafficking Safety Fair

In honor of Human Trafficking Month, the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety is hosting a human trafficking fair mid-January to raise and share prevention tips.

Just two weeks ago, police officers rescued two females, one a minor, from a human trafficking at a Rohnert Park hotel. The survivors were provided advocate services afterwards, said police.

“Human trafficking, whether it be for sexual exploitation or forced labor, is happening all around us in Sonoma County,” said District Attorney elect Carla Rodriguez. “Men, women and children alike are regularly coerced or forced into unimaginable circumstances. We need to spread the word about the harsh realities of human trafficking. It can happen to anyone.”

Alongside the District Attorney's Office, the Family Justice Center, multiple social service departments and local non-profits, the police department is hosting a fair on Jan. 17 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety.

Residents will be able to ask questions to organizations directly working to mitigate human trafficking and advocate for survivors.

Tim Mattos, Rohnert Park DPS Chief of Police, said it is essential to maintain strong partnerships between and community organizations working with human trafficking survivors.

“I make it my mission to strengthen our department's partnerships with federal, state, and local agencies to reduce human trafficking in our city. More importantly, we know that partnering with the essential wrap-around service providers in the area, strengthens our ability to protect victims of human trafficking and provide important support that is needed to recover.”
