Hyundai Severs Links with Alabama Suppliers in Child Labor Probe – The Crime Report

Hyundai Motor Co. is investigating child labor violations in its U.S. supply chain and plans to “sever ties” with Hyundai suppliers in Alabama after a previous investigation discovered children as young as 12 working at factories there, report Joseph White and Joshua Schneyer for Reuters.

In response to Reuters' investigation, Global Chief Operating Officer Jose Munoz aslso ordered a broader investigation into Hyundai's entire network of U.S. auto parts suppliers for potential labor law violations and “to ensure compliance.”

The alleged abuses emerged following the February 3 disappearance of a 14-year-old Guatemalan migrant child in Alabama. The child and her two brothers, aged 12 and 15, all worked for the plant, AL.com reported

According to Wall Street Journal, Hyundai and SMART Alabama, one of the suppliers, have denied the Reuters story's allegations
