Need to educate people about sexual violence law: Ministry – Worldakkam

Jakarta-The Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection said it needed to build an understanding of the law on sexual violence among the general public in order to support victims.

“The public needs to understand this law and is expected to help victims to have the courage to talk (above) about the violence they have committed,” said the Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection. The ministry has also launched the SAPA 129 (Sahabat Perempuandan Anak or Women and Children's Friend) service, which allows women and children to report cases of violence. Such reports can also be created via WhatsApp with the number +628111129129.

At this event, Minister Puspa Yoga said that the passage of Law No. 12 of 2022 on sexual violence is a form of state attention to victims as it establishes the legal basis for protection from violence and discrimination. Said. It is also a way to ensure that victims fulfill their rights and are assisted in their process.

“The sexual violence law is binding on all Indonesian citizens, so we hope that all women's associations and others will have a comprehensive view of the law,” he said.

She explained the law as follows lex specialis, This may provide comprehensive protection for victims of sexual violence from start to finish.

The event on Friday was attended by an organization registered as a member of the Indonesian Women's Conference. Dr. Giwo Rubianto Wiyogo, chair of the Indonesian Women's Conference, said the immediate enforcement of the sexual violence law is very necessary.

She added that members of the Indonesian Women's Conference are always educating people about the law. They also advocate law and support agencies.

“Protecting women and children is not just a government mission, but our entire mission,” she said.
