Supreme Court

The Supreme Court is the highest court in the United States and is the final authority on issues of federal law, including the Constitution. It is made up of nine justices who are appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. The Supreme Court has original jurisdiction over a small number of cases, such as cases involving ambassadors and other public ministers, and it also has appellate jurisdiction, which means it can hear appeals from lower federal courts and state courts. The decisions of the Supreme Court are binding on all other courts in the United States and have a significant impact on the interpretation and application of federal law. The Supreme Court has the power to declare federal laws and actions of the government unconstitutional, which makes it an important check on the other branches of government.
