NXIVM (pronounced “nexium”) was a multi-level marketing company that was founded in 1998 by Keith Raniere and Nancy Salzman. The company offered personal and professional development seminars, but it later became known for its involvement in a sex trafficking and racketeering case.

In 2018, Raniere was arrested and charged with multiple crimes, including sex trafficking, forced labor, wire fraud, and racketeering. Salzman and several other high-ranking members of NXIVM were also charged in the case. The charges were based on allegations that NXIVM operated as a pyramid scheme and that Raniere and others within the organization recruited and groomed women to be his sex slaves.

The case gained widespread media attention, and a number of former members of NXIVM came forward with accounts of abuse and exploitation within the organization. In 2019, Raniere was found guilty on all charges and was sentenced to life in prison. Salzman and other NXIVM members have also been convicted and are serving prison sentences for their involvement in the case.
