National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) is a federal agency in Nigeria that is responsible for preventing and combating human trafficking, as well as protecting and assisting victims of trafficking.

NAPTIP was established in 2003 and is responsible for implementing Nigeria’s national plan of action to combat human trafficking. It works to raise awareness of human trafficking, provide assistance to victims, and carry out investigations and prosecutions of trafficking cases.

NAPTIP operates a number of programs and initiatives to combat human trafficking, including:

Rescue and rehabilitation: NAPTIP operates a number of shelters and rehabilitation centers where victims of trafficking can receive support and assistance.

Investigations and prosecutions: NAPTIP works with law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute trafficking cases.

Prevention and awareness: NAPTIP conducts outreach and education campaigns to raise awareness of human trafficking and to prevent people from becoming victims.

Research and data collection: NAPTIP conducts research on human trafficking in Nigeria and collects data on the prevalence and impact of the problem.

NAPTIP plays a crucial role in the fight against human trafficking in Nigeria and works closely with other government agencies, civil society organizations, and international partners to address the issue.
