Loss and Damage

Loss and damage refers to the negative impacts of climate change that cannot be avoided through adaptation measures. Loss and damage can take many forms, including physical damage to infrastructure, loss of land and property, and loss of livelihoods and income. Loss and damage can disproportionately affect vulnerable communities, including those in developing countries and communities that are already marginalized or disadvantaged.

The concept of loss and damage has been recognized in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and efforts are ongoing to address loss and damage at the international level. This includes efforts to enhance understanding of the causes and consequences of loss and damage, to develop and implement effective response measures, and to provide support to countries and communities affected by loss and damage.
