Illegal Immigrant

An illegal immigrant, also known as an undocumented immigrant, is a person who is living in a country without legal authorization.

This term is not entirely appropriate or accurate, because people are not “illegal”; they are undocumented and the act of being in a country without legal authorization is what is illegal. This distinction is vital because the word “illegal” can lead to racism and otherism, which leads to violence and misunderstanding.

Being without documentation can happen for a variety of reasons, such as entering the country without proper documentation, overstaying a visa, or violating the terms of their visa.

Illegal immigration (an act; not a person) is a complex and often contentious issue, and different countries have different laws and policies in place to address it. Some people believe that illegal immigration can have negative effects on a country, including taking jobs away from citizens, increasing crime, and placing a strain on public resources. Others believe that it can be beneficial, providing a source of cheap labor and contributing to the diversity and vibrancy of a society.
