Homeland Security

The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is a federal executive department that is responsible for protecting the country from terrorism and other threats to national security. The DHS was established in 2002 in response to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The DHS is headed by the secretary of homeland security, who is appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate.

DHS is composed of a number of different agencies, including the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). The DHS is responsible for a wide range of activities, including border security, disaster response, and cyber security.
