Modern Slavery Act

The Modern Slavery Act 2015 is a UK law that seeks to combat modern slavery and human trafficking. The Act includes measures to protect victims, prosecute those responsible for modern slavery, and raise awareness about the issue. The Act introduced a new offence of slavery, servitude, and forced or compulsory labor, and it increased the maximum sentence for these crimes from 14 years to life imprisonment. The Act also established a new role of Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner to oversee the government’s efforts to tackle modern slavery. Additionally, the Act requires certain businesses to produce annual statements outlining the steps they have taken to ensure that their supply chains are free from slavery and human trafficking. The Modern Slavery Act 2015 was a significant step forward in the UK’s efforts to combat modern slavery and human trafficking.
