The Metropolitan Police, also known as the Met, is the police force responsible for law enforcement in the Greater London area of the United Kingdom. It is one of the largest police forces in the world, and is the oldest police force in the country, having been founded in 1829. The Metropolitan Police are responsible for maintaining public order, preventing and detecting crime, and protecting the residents and visitors of London. The force is organized into several units, including specialist units that focus on specific types of crime and policing activities. The Metropolitan Police are accountable to the Mayor of London and the London Assembly.
