South America

South America is a region that has seen significant human trafficking activity, particularly in countries such as Brazil, Colombia, and Peru. Trafficking in South America often involves forced labor, particularly in the mining and agricultural sectors, as well as sex trafficking. Many trafficking victims in the region are from neighboring countries, such as Venezuela, and are lured into exploitation with promises of employment and a better life. Some traffickers also use debt bondage to keep their victims enslaved, charging exorbitant fees for food, accommodation, and transportation that the victim is unable to pay off. Additionally, South America serves as a transit point for trafficking victims from other parts of the world, particularly Africa and Asia, who are being transported to North America and Europe.
