It is connected to the Atlantic Ocean through the Strait of Gibraltar, and to the Red Sea through the Suez Canal. The Mediterranean Sea has a long and storied history, and has been an important trade route and cultural crossroads for thousands of years. It is known for its warm climate, beautiful beaches, and diverse array of plant and animal life. The Mediterranean Sea is also an important source of food and natural resources, with many species of fish and other marine life being harvested for human consumption.
