Health and Human Services

The Health and Human Services (HHS) division is a federal agency of the United States government that is responsible for protecting the health and well-being of the American people. The HHS is the largest Cabinet department in the federal government, and it administers a wide range of programs and services that are designed to promote health and support individuals and families.

The HHS is headed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services, who is appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. The HHS has a wide range of responsibilities and functions, including:

Providing health care services through programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

Conducting research and providing information on public health issues, such as infectious diseases, chronic conditions, and health disparities.

Protecting the safety and effectiveness of drugs, medical devices, and other products that are used by the public.

Providing support and services to individuals and families in need, such as temporary assistance for needy families (TANF), the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program.

Coordinating with other federal, state, and local agencies to protect the health and well-being of the American people.

Overall, the HHS is a key agency in the federal government’s efforts to protect the health and well-being of the American people. It plays a vital role in promoting health and providing support and services to those in need.
