R. Kelly's 10 sex abuse charges in Chicago get dropped – Hip Hop Vibe

R. Kelly is on his way to spending the rest of his life in prison. In September 2021, he was convicted of his Brooklyn case, on all counts. As a result, the disgraced R&B star was sentenced to 30 years in prison. In his Illinois trial, last September, Kelly was guilty on three counts of child pornography and three counts of child enticement. He will be sentenced, next month.

However, Kelly's 10 charges of sexual abuse in his Illinois trial have now been dropped. As a result, this was confirmed on Monday, by Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx. Cost reportedly played a role in this decision, as Foxx emphasized that Kelly is already going to be in prison for life.

“Justice has been served against Kelly with those two convictions,” Foxx explained. “Mr. Kelly is looking at the possibility of never walking out of prison again.”

Therefore, Foxx also added that she spoke to the women that Kelly was involved with, regarding these charges. Three of the four women were minors at the time, with the incidents occurring from May 1998-January 2010. 3-7 years in prison were on the table, for each charge.

“I know firsthand how difficult it is for you to tell your stories,” Foxx added. “Four years ago, I stood at this podium and shared my story of having been a survivor and my full understanding of what it means to have to go before strangers to discuss what is arguably one of the most horrific experiences one could have. And these women, all of them Black, came forward, believing that they would be heard.”
