Human sacrifice case: Police dismiss organ trafficking link

Kochi: City Police Commissioner CH Nagaraju here on Tuesday dismissed the alleged organ trafficking in Elanthoor human sacrifice case. Addressing the media here, he pointed out that some statements of the accused are not found convincing.

At the same time, he confirmed that Muhammad Shafi is the prime accused in Elanthoor double murder and human sacrifice case. The Special Investigation Team has been collecting evidence in the case.

“The accused have been giving many narrations related to the case. But they are hiding some matters. We are not convinced with their statements,” said the commissioner.

“ Shafi might have chopped the bodies of the two women. He behaved like a butcher. Shafi has been narrating many stories. The probe team will investigate his criminal background in detail,” he added.

“ Procedures for organ transplantation must be carried out in hygienic conditions. Maybe Shafi had convinced Laila and Bhagaval Singh, the other accused in the case about financial gains from organ trade like flesh trade,” said the commissioner.

The SIT has confirmed that Shafi had convinced the other accused that they can earn up to Rs 20 lakh by selling the flesh of the killed women. Because of this, they chopped the dead bodies and stored it in the fridge. He had told them that a Bengaluru-based person will arrive to collect the flesh.

As per the police remand report, the husband-wife pair of Bhagaval Singh and Laila conspired with the “prime accused” Muhammed Shafi to commit the crimes.

The police remand report of the accused mentions the shocking “human sacrifices” were suspected to have been committed as part of a ritual to obtain financial benefits.
