Chicago PD star teases 'very dark' storyline in season 10

Chicago Fire
may be celebrating Halloween and having a mostly harmless time, but Chicago PD is going grim. First there was the departure of Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer), which sent fans and characters into a spiral, and then there was a case involving a missing teenager and a human trafficking ring. Compelling, but not exactly cheery.

Well buckle up, because things aren't going to get cheerier in season 10. The episode “Pink Cloud” was a fascinating peek into what feels like a bigger narrative, and PD star Benjamin Levy Aguilar confirmed this belief when he talked with NBC.

Upton becomes obsessed on Chicago PD

Aguilar, who plays the rookie Torres, told the outlet that big things will be going down with regards to the human trafficking case and the IU as a unit. To nobody's surprise, the case will involve Chief O'Neal (Michael Gaston) and his son, Sean (Jefferson White), in ways that are not entirely legal.

“The dynamic between Chief O'Neal and his son is amazing”, the actor revealed. “These are two incredible actors that I have loved seeing work and sharing moments. Whether it's on scenes or behind-the-scenes. I'm actually really excited for everyone to see it because [human trafficking] is something that is happening right now, and it's something that can really use a voice.”

PD
has delved into grim topics before, but it's been a while since it looked inwards and tackled from within the precinct. It will be a nice change of pace, and will also open up the floor to the aforementioned Sean, who has been positively chilling in his screen time thus far.

Another important revelation from Aguilar is the fact that Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) is the one who spearheads the case, and the hole left by Halstead's departure gets filled by an obsession to catch the people responsible for the trafficking ring.

“We'll see her deal with it by first seeking distraction—diving into work, putting all that feeling into the job—and when a case pops off that really gets inside her head, that distraction quickly turns to an obsession”, he added. “It's an interesting path for her, fueled by a lot of emotion and denial.”

Truthfully, we can't wait to see how all this turns out, and what it will do to the characters when the dust settles.
