Human trafficking awareness meet held in N’pada

An programme of stakeholders on human trafficking was held at Bhanpur of Nuapada district jointly by Aide et Action and UNICEF in collaboration with Nuapada police and Women and Child Crime Prevention Branch of Crime Branch, Odisha.

The programme was intended to develop awareness on issues of child and women trafficking prevalent especially in 10 sensitive Gram Panchayats of migration prone Nuapada block in Nuapada district.

The event was attended by Inspector, Anti-Human Trafficking Branch Nuapada,Shovam Kisan, who said that is a sensitive issue and the authorities have an important role to play in combating the menace.

He called upon the workers to go to their work destination through labour contractors who are recognized and licenced by the Labor Department.

Conducting the technical session, district coordinator of Aide et Action Ranjan Kumar Sahu explained about child trafficking and the role of groups in preventing it. Savita Sunani spoke about the services provided to children by Childline.

Anganwadi workers present in the programme explained how they keep track of the movements of children, pregnant and lactating mothers by writing their names in a register and stay in touch with them.

Asha Karmi, member of Ama Police Association, MBK members, CRP and women Self Help Groups highlighted how migrant families can become self-reliant. Security Officer Prashant Sahu welcomed everyone in the beginning and introduced the guests and finally gave the vote of thanks.
