Malaysian woman freed, 11 arrested and weapons seized in human trafficking crackdown
General Khieu Sopheak, Secretary of State and spokesman for the Ministry of Interior has stated that police have freed a Malaysian woman, seized firearms and arrested 11 people after a crackdown on human trafficking early this morning in Sihanoukville.
The operation to crack down on labor trafficking cases has been running since August 23, 2022, after a complaint was made to the hotline of the working group of Sar Kheng, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, that a woman had been detained by a group of suspects in a company in Sihanoukville.
During the first day of the operation, police arrested five Chinese suspects and freed a Malaysian woman.
General Khieu Sopheak added that later in the operation, the police arrested a total of 8 suspects and confiscated a handgun.
Later, at 1:30 am on August 26, 2022, the force searched and cracked down on a suspect who traded weapons and arrested 3 more suspects – two Cambodians and a Chinese man
The confiscated items include: 2 firearms (Matrayet and Kalidou), 1 handgun, 1 AK rifle, 3 handguns (4 in total), 1 black ZORAKI , Black ZORAKI brand, 1 black SIG SAURER brand, 2 bullets, 240 bullets (265 bullets in total)
Cambodia is currently implementing a large-scale operation to monitor the residences of foreigners in Cambodia, to check the legitimacy and find targets related to human trafficking.
