Investigation into Child Trafficking in Nashik City; Tribal Development Minister Dr. Testimony

Nandurbar: It is unfortunate that tribal parents sell their children for money in Ahmednagar district along with Igatpuri of Nashik and to prevent such incidents from happening again, Tribal Development Minister Dr. Vijayakumar Gavit explained.

It was revealed that 18 children of the Katkari community in Igatpuri taluk were sold by their parents for prostitution. Police rescued eight children who were sold to feed sheep. So, a 10-year-old girl died due to torture. We will take precautions so that such a thing does not happen again in Maharashtra. The department has started special planning for Katkari community. Aadhaar card, caste certificate, shelter, ration card will be planned and implemented before December to provide them facilities. Gavit also indicated that in this case, the department will thoroughly investigate those who sell and buy children and take action against the culprits.

After the report in ‘Loksatta', Deputy Chairman of Legislative Council Dr. Neelam Gorhe took notice and instructed the state government to take measures. Tribal Development Minister Dr. Gavit mentioned that the incident in this regard is serious.

Precautions will be taken so that such a thing does not happen again in Maharashtra. For the Katkari community where the incident took place, arrangements will be made to provide facilities by December.
