Greenwich Hospital nursing leader honored for fight against human trafficking – Greenwich Time
Greenwich Hospital Chief Nursing Officer Anna Cerra was honored for her work to stop human trafficking during the sixth Annual International Nurses Day sponsored by Nurses with Global Impact.
“I feel a great sense of accomplishment that we brought this critically important training to Italy where, unfortunately, human trafficking is rampant and only going to grow given the current war in the Ukraine,” said Cerra, a Greenwich resident.
The event was held on May 13 at the Hudson House in Port Liberté, N.J.
A native of Italy, Cerra offered to contact her health-care colleagues in that country upon hearing the United Nations needed additional sites for an international research study on training large health-care systems about identifying human trafficking.
Two of Italy's largest hospitals and universities — University of Sacred Heart Hospital and University of Milan, GSD International Hospital — agreed to participate, but they requested the training be done in Italian.
Cerra volunteered to translate and present the materials. After completion, the Ambassador for the Order of Malta shared the training worldwide for anyone needing an Italian version.
A 23-year veteran of Greenwich Hospital, Cerra is chief nursing officer and senior vice president of Patient Care Services. She sits on the board of the Connecticut Hospital Association for Patient Care Quality and chairs its Patient and Family Advisory Council.
