Possible human trafficking victim found dead in car trunk in Montgomery County double homicide – Houston Chronicle

The body of a missing woman was found Sunday in the trunk of a car in rural Montgomery County, and police believe she may have been a victim of human trafficking.

A pair of four-wheel drivers found an abandoned car and human remains in a wooded area of Roman Forest near the intersection of Fairway and Putters Green around 10:23 a.m., said Stephen Carlisle of the Roman Forest Police. Homicide detectives discovered a man's body in the woods near Fairway Drive and, nearby, the woman's body in the car's trunk.

Both bodies were found “in a state of decomposition” and are believed to belong to two people separately reported missing on May 25, Lt. Scott Spencer of the Montgomery County sheriff's office told the Montgomery County Police Reporter.

Authorities identified the woman as Roman Forest resident Magan Madison Leach, 19.

Leach “may be a victim of human trafficking” and was likely being transported to Harris County or Louisiana, according to a missing persons poster the sheriff's office released late last month.

Detectives have not publicly identified the man, believed to be the owner of the car found at the scene.

Initial investigations indicated the pair died by gunshot wound, Spencer said. It was unclear how long their bodies were in Roman Forrest before they were discovered, he added. Autopsies will be performed at Montgomery County Forensic Center.

“The motive and circumstances surrounding these deaths are under investigation,” the sheriff's office said in a statement.
