‘We’re going to change Sacramento’: Sex trafficking awareness rally takes to the state Capitol – KCRA Sacramento

Hundreds rallied in a large march across Sacramento on Saturday afternoon in an effort to bring to a problem that faces millions globally: .

According to The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), one in six runaways are likely the victim of sex traffickers.

NCMEC estimates that 4.8 million people are trapped in forced sexual exploitation across the globe.”

We're going to change Sacramento,” yelled those at the rally into a megaphone Saturday afternoon.

Many of those rallying, associated with the Ministries of Victory Outreach South Sacramento, shared their personal stories of human and sex trafficking.”

He started sexually abusing me and selling me for his own gain,” explained Irene Toro, a woman and survivor with Victory Outreach.”

That betrayal turned into a blessing because I have a son and he's not gonna be anything like his father,” said Toro.

Another woman, Angelica Moreno, recounted her experience with trafficking that was attributed to her mother.”

I was about six years old, my mother would teach me to go to other people's houses, well she would leave me with these grown people she would receive drugs from them and then she would leave me with them for three days,” said Moreno.

The group told KCRA 3 that over their three-day outreach, they have made contact with more than 500 people in the greater Sacramento area connected to sex trafficking.”

Sacramento is a part of a main circuit of girls that are moved from city to city,” said Eddie Caraveo, Senior Pastor at Victory Outreach South Sacramento.”

It's a huge, huge need that we're not gonna solve if we work in silos. We got to come together with faith-based organizations, community organizations, law-enforcement, city officials we have to target this and deal with it collectively,” said Caraveo.
