Our January 5 Stones meeting featured Mikey Betancourt, Program Specialist with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, as he discussed how DFPS is responding to the growing concern of trafficking among youth.

This month we had two agency announcements:

  • Felicia Grantham :
    • We now have the 5 Stones Foundation that will raise funds and give grants to eligible taskforce member agencies, so we have had to change our membership process.  There is now an application and vetting process.  Please email felicia.grantham@fortworthtexas.gov to inquire about becoming a member agency.  
  • LaTasha Jackson-McDougle – Cheryl's Voice
    • Victory Over Violence Walk is Saturday April 9, 2022.  Visit www.vovfw.org for more information.

TC 5 Stones January 2022

This month we heard from FWPD for case updates, then our main presentation was given by Program Specialist Mikey Betancourt with the Department of Family and Protective Services as he discussed how the agency has responded to the growing concern of trafficking among CPS youth.

Mikey Betancourt, Program Specialist Mikey Betancourt is a Program Specialist with DFPS Human Trafficking and Division. He currently serves as the team lead and liaison to our Care Coordination Team state partners that consist of the Office of the Governor's Team Regional Administrators, and Children's Advocacy Centers of Texas. Mikey co-chairs and facilitates the Administration for Children and Families Region VI Human Trafficking Screening Tools and Law Analysis Work Groups. Mikey also leads the division's faith-based efforts in partnership with Shared Hope International in implementing the Faith-In-Action program to congregations across the state of Texas.

Mikey has over 25 years of non-profit servant leadership experience and has honed his leadership philosophy of ‘Opportunity provides an atmosphere of Growth'. His career highlights are conducting over 3,400 forensic interviews for multidisciplinary teams at six CACs in Texas, serving as the executive director at three Child Advocacy Centers, was the founding executive director for the Children's Alliance of South Texas CAC, and lead the development of the Dallas CAC Child division and creation of the Dallas County Coordinated Care Team initiated by the Texas Office of the Governor's Child Sex Trafficking Team.

Mikey is passionate about bridging gaps and bringing people together to work towards common goals for the greater good of the mission and vision of DFPS and the HTCE division.
